Better Access for Mental Health Integration

Designed the webpage layout for the Youth Service Integration Resource Kit and conducted usability research around the Service Integration questionnaire design so users can assess/rate their current level of service integration and be directed to personalised resources recommendations to improve support to their clients and partners.

The project background

Connecting mental health service providers with tailored resources

More than 1 million young Australians experience mental illness each year, with half of all young people facing a mental health issue before the age of 25.

To support service providers, the Youth Service Integration Resource Kit was developed, offering interactive tools, templates, and background resources that help youth mental health services collaborate more effectively with partner agencies for the benefit of young people and their families.

The goal of this project was to present key information clearly, streamline navigation, and improve user engagement by making content more accessible and easier to digest.

Retrospective

What I learnt from this project

Reducing cognitive overload and making the experience more approachable: By simplifying navigation, using clear language, and supporting different levels of digital literacy, we created a space where users could engage without feeling overwhelmed.

The intricacies of questionnaire design: Even small details — like the order of questions, the phrasing of options, or the balance between open and closed responses — significantly influence how users engage and what they choose to share.

Collaborative co-design strengthens outcomes: I learned a lot from working closely with another designer on this project. This collaboration pushed me to think differently, challenged my assumptions, and ultimately led to stronger design outcomes than if I had worked in isolation.
